We have already written in the MQ about Benedict Mason’s Lighthouses of England and Wales. Now the South Coast composer Orlando Gough has written a Foghorn Requiem. Lead foghorn will be the Souter light at South Shields. The organizers say:  ‘it is not only the first musical score created for foghorns but it will also use pioneering technology to conduct and control ships’ horns from afar. Vessels at sea will sound their horns to a musical score that will take into account climatic conditions, the landscape and distance from the shore.’ Vessels wishing to take part should be off South Shields on 22 June with their horns tuned and polished.
